Z Grill & Tap owners revamp restaurant menu and renovate interior

Cajun Creole ($ 15.95) includes shrimp, chicken, and smoked andouille sausage in a spicy Cajun sauce served over rice.

Having recently moved to the United States from Italy, husband and wife Shawn and Zara Mashayekhi were looking for a new experience and decided to take over the ownership of Flower Mound’s Z Grill & Tap in 2016.

“We already had experience in the restaurant business in Italy,” said Shawn. “We wanted to take over so we could meet and get to know more people in town. “

Three years later, they’re ready to make further changes, this time to the restaurant itself.

“This restaurant has been around for almost 10 years,” Shawn said. “We have to update everything to be competitive. “

The couple began revamping the restaurant in February when they revealed new items on the menu.

“We’ve added a gluten-free section as well as vegan items,” Zara said. “We also added bruschetta; a dish we call Cajun Creole, which is similar to jambalaya; and a three-tiered chocolate mousse cake that I make myself.

Shawn said they keep a lot of customer favorites on the menu, like Chilean sea bass, which is one of his personal favorites.

“People love the bar,” he says. “We have people [who] come from McKinney, all over the area pretty much – to get it. “

Another thing the couple said are keeping is the live music events.

“We have live music Wednesday through Saturday,” Shawn said. “We are in the process of remaking the scene and moving it to another area of the restaurant. We are also in the process of redesigning our lighting, our seats and our interior.

Those who haven’t attended a live music event at the restaurant can do so when it reopens on April 12, which will feature the Walton Stout Band.

“We’re known for our great food and live music, and that won’t change; it will only get better, ”Shawn said.
