We review Wendy’s first UK restaurant – menu, customer service and more

MY enthusiasm for the opening of Wendy’s Reading had been brewing for a while, so when they invited me in it was an offer I just couldn’t refuse.

On Friday May 28, I was able to check Wendy’s before it opens today and give you a taste of what to expect.

I couldn’t contain my excitement about trying food that I had never visited a Wendy’s before or had never been to America.

The restaurant is modern and clean inside, with tables spaced out for guests to enjoy their meals in comfort.

Ensuring customers feel safe and secure during Covid has been well thought out by the team, with practical measures in place to ensure social distancing inside.

The restaurant has a separate area where you line up to order your food and then a large open space where you wait for your meal.

Unlike Five Guys’ drink dispenser where you have to touch a screen to pour your drink, Wendy’s has a system that looks like something from the future. I guess it’s to avoid contact during Covid-19.

Bracknell News:

Simply scan the on-screen QR code, choose from a selection of non-alcoholic drinks, and then press and hold the Pour button on your phone. It was like magic.

Unfortunately the coke was sold out for my friend, but one of the team members quickly filled the vending machine with drinks so I can’t fault their service at all.

My friend Ellie and I got to try a selection of items from the menu including the real chicken breast nuggets, the chicken burger and Ellie tried the baconator burger.

Bracknell News:

The food was so fresh and everything tasted so strong. Every bite of the burger I had was delicious, with the brioche style bun giving a soft texture and sweetness contrasting with the succulent and flavorful chicken.

The dough was crisp, light, and not greasy at all, but it was nasty enough that I knew I was having an indulgent meal.

If you go later today you must try the Bacanotor Fries with Cheese. The fries were well seasoned and chewy on the inside, with the crispy bacon juice melting into the fries.

To fully enjoy Wendy’s experience, I was told to dip the chips in the Frosty chocolate I ordered.

Take my word for it the combination works well together because you have the mixture of sweet and savory. It also made me nostalgic as it reminded me of when I was little when I dipped my chips in a McDonald’s milkshake.

There is also a fantastic choice for vegetarians or people who crave something lighter.

In the video above, you’ll hear me explain that I wouldn’t go for vegetarian food, but for anyone, veggie bites have a great flavor and will leave you feeling full.

They also make shirt potatoes and salads. Can’t wait to try the avocado salad which features the veggie bites and southwest ranch dressing!

If you’re visiting Reading or just unsure of what to eat for lunch, Wendy’s might be worth your visit.
