“Restaurant staff should eat in the staff room, not in open spaces,” says Sabah police commissioner

You’ve probably heard of a few instances where restaurants and their staff were made worse off when they were caught eating in the dining room during MCO. SOPs now indicate that only take-out is allowed and there should be no catering. This applies to Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

Regarding the matter, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Hazani Ghazali said staff should not eat in the dining room as they should have their meals in the staff room or in a secluded area. He added that staff who eat group meals are considered to have violated SOPs.

“Before the Covid-19 pandemic and the SOP, restaurant or restaurant owners did not allow their staff to have their meals outdoors and especially in front of their dining room customers.”

He further clarified and said that staff should eat in the staff room while being physically away from each other or they could eat in isolation, The Borneo Post reported.
