Jennifer Saunders rants against restaurant service

For the most part, eating in an upscale restaurant with attentive staff is one of life’s little luxuries.

But for Jennifer Saunders, being served by overly attentive waiters who “hover” around the table when you are in a restaurant is nothing short of infuriating.

The star – who is best known for playing PR Edina Monsoon in Absolutely Fabulous – has said one thing that infuriates her is when restaurant staff harass you when you’re trying to enjoy your food.

Not impressed: Jennifer Saunder revealed that she finds it served by overly attentive waiters who ‘hover’ around the table when you are in a restaurant, just infuriating

“What really angers me are people asking if you’re okay. Like in a restaurant, ”she says.

“They say, ‘Are you okay? And I think, “I hate you. If it wasn’t fucking going well, I would have told you. Leave me alone. Leave me alone.”

The 59-year-old, who has eaten at a number of upscale restaurants including the Wolseley in Mayfair – where they serve oysters, lobster and snails – added: “People are circling around you.

‘I’m like,’ Don’t come. Don’t fill my glass with wine. I will. More often than you would. Leave me alone. ‘

The comedian also lamented the service staff who try to make little “insane” conversations with customers.

Speaking at an In Conversation with Standard Issue event, the mother of three said, “I was at one until the other day. I managed to buy something and she said “Successful day?” “” What do you mean by ‘successful day? This is insane. We love to be grumpy buyers.

But while the irritating staff may infuriate Miss Saunders, she’d rather suffer in silence than let them know she’s bored.

The actress, who is worth over £ 10million, has previously said she refuses to argue with the waiters – and will supplement the food even if it’s “really c ** p”.

“I actually don’t have a lot of rows,” she said. ‘I am a wanderer. If someone brings me a really crappy meal at a restaurant, I’ll tell them it’s wonderful and I’ll never go to a restaurant again.

She told the Guardian: “I think that’s the best way to do it in general, rather than just sit and fight and have your head bored. Pretend to enjoy it and go.

Miss Saunders’ grandmother recently returned to our screens for a Christmas special with her comedic partner Dawn French.

The couple, who rose to prominence together after forming a double act while studying at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, released a special episode to mark their 30th anniversary.

The BBC One show 300 Years of French and Saunders – which showed some of their old content mixed with new clips – targeted reality TV in a skit that showed Miss French dressed as Kim Kardashian.

Although Miss Saunders has lived most of her life in the limelight, she has managed to maintain a happy relationship. She has been married to fellow actor Ade Edmondson for over 30 years and the couple live together in Devon.

One of their daughters, Beatrice, 30, is also an actress and currently stars on the BBC sitcom Three Josh.
