FPD offers de-escalation training to bar and restaurant staff Frederick | WDVM25 and DCW50

FREDERICK, Md. (WDVM) – In an effort to improve the night duty, the Frederick Police Department recently worked with local bars and restaurants to provide de-escalation and tactical communication training in the framework of its activities within the nocturnal working group.

Police have trained more than 40 bar and restaurant workers in conjunction with the Downtown Frederick Partnership and worked to equip bar and restaurant staff with the communication skills necessary to defuse situations they may encounter with customers of their business.

“Frederick Police Department relies on tactical communication daily to ensure positive outcomes with every person we interact with. This tactical communication will serve as an additional tool for Frederick’s bar and restaurant staff to prevent incidents requiring police intervention. However, this partnership also serves to continue to build relationships with these staff and facilities, so that they can feel comfortable calling the police when needed.
